Operations Manager – Nelson

We are currently looking for a Sales & Operations Manager to join our team and oversee the operations at our Nelson premises. If you’re passionate about renewable energy and want to shape the future of sustainable energy, this role is for you.

Role Overview

As the Business Manager, you will have a pivotal role in managing the day-to-day operations of our Nelson facility, sales, overseeing stock management, and health & safety, while also providing technical and project management support for installations. You will work closely with residential and commercial clients to ensure projects are delivered smoothly from design to completion. Additionally, you’ll assist in driving business development, contributing to the strategic growth of the company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Oversight
    • Manage the operations at our Nelson premises, including stock management, logistics, order fulfilment and support of the installation team.
    • Oversee systems and processes within the office to ensure that delivering of the service is efficient and organised.
  • Sales & Customer Support
    • Lead residential and small commercial sales, including customer communication, site assessments, system design, quoting, and after-sales service.
    • Support larger commercial projects by assisting with project management and providing sales support.
  • Business Development & Marketing
    • Contribute to business development strategies and assist in shaping and driving the company’s growth.
    • Helping shape and drive the strategic direction of the business.
  • Health & Safety
    • Oversee health and safety practices within the Nelson warehouse and ensure compliance across teams.
  • Technical Support
    • Provide technical support (with support of technical resource) to customers and internal teams – both in-field and remote assistance.
    • Develop expertise in the solar products we stock.
    • Stay updated with regulatory, legal, and product requirements to ensure business compliance and best practices.
  • Project Management & Installation
    • Manage projects and provide technical support for larger commercial installations.
    • Assist with installation work when required, including off-grid, grid-tie, battery backup, hydro, and other specialty projects.
  • Staff Training & Development
    • Train and develop the Nelson-based staff to ensure they are fully equipped to support installation and logistics operations.

Requirement

We are looking for a person that can drive the business forward and take ownership of the key areas so that the Managing Director can focus on growth in other areas.   Other requirements that will help you be successful in this role are:

  • Proven track record of leading operational teams and managing warehouse/logistics functions.
  • Knowledge of solar energy products, including system installation and design, or a willingness to develop technical expertise in this area.
  • Experience in business management with strong interpersonal and management skills.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to lead client-facing sales processes.
  • Ability to work hands-on when needed, including supporting installations.
  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations in a warehouse/installation environment.
  • A passion for renewable energy and sustainable solutions.

Background

Current Generation are a leading solar energy solutions provider based in Nelson, specialising in residential and small commercial solar installations.  Established in 2006 we also have a history of providing alternative energy solutions for our customers including off-grid, hydro and generators and we also have a wholesale distribution side of the business.

Our Nelson based installation team primarily works in the area at the top of the South Island with occasional work in other regions.   We are a SEANZ member and authorised provider, we pride ourselves on delivering high-quality, sustainable energy solutions to our clients.
